keyboarding Writing it down makes it real.

It's been two weeks since I've provided an update and I want to be clear that that isn't the pattern I plan to follow. I'm still doing my best to write every week. Not because I think a lot of people are waiting breathlessly to find out how I'm doing or for my incredible inspiration. No, I need to write weekly because that is a large part of what helps me hold myself accountable during the week.

It's true. When people ask me what I'm doing to lose weight I start by telling them that I've chosen not to be part of anyone's formatted diet plan and that I'm not a big fan of working out. Instead I'm on a "live it" that focuses on making better choices of what I eat, how much I eat, and how often I eat. I've also learned that eating less and moving more are the two important parts of any fitness plan. So, since I don't like workouts, I've found ways to move that are more enjoyable like my long walks... I call them "funouts."

But the next thing I tell people is about the writing. It's a form of public accountability for what I've done during the week and what progress I'm making against my goals. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but it works for me. It's become that weekly reminder and a reason to stay focused and moving in the right direction - even when the scale starts pointing the wrong way.

Over the last two weeks I've been more focused on eating more fruit and less of the salty snacks that I lose control over. Unfortunately, I suffered a pinched nerve in my neck and shoulder for a few days that limited my exercise. About the time that resolved itself a nasty head cold moved in. I have it back under control now and I'm am back in my Monday Zumba class and walking or pumping away on the elliptical a few more times per week.
